Sisters are the best!

Today Heather and her girlies came over for a much needed (by me!) visit. Heather and I made Bagels!! I got the recipe off of my friend Lauren Christine's blog. It worked really well as is, but we can't wait to try it again with different flavors! The dough was just wonderful to work with too, by the way.
For those interested, here's the recipe...
Bagels
1 teaspoon active dry yeast
1 1/4 cups warm milk (110 to 115 degrees F)
1/4 cup butter or margarine, softened
2 tablespoons sugar
1 teaspoon salt
1 egg yolk
3 3/4 cups all-purpose flour

In a mixing bowl, dissolve yeast in warm milk. Add the butter, sugar, salt and egg yolk; mix well. Stir in enough flour to form a soft dough. Turn onto a floured surface; knead until smooth and elastic, about 6-8 minutes. Place in a greased bowl, turning once to grease top. Cover and let rise in a warm place until doubled, about 1 hour. Punch dough down. Shape into 12 balls. Push thumb through centers to form a 1-in. hole. Place on a floured surface. Cover and let rest for 10 minutes; flatten. In a large saucepan, bring water to a boil. Drop bagels, one at a time, into boiling water. When bagels float to the surface, remove with a slotted spoon and place 2 in. apart on greased baking sheets. Bake at 400 degrees F for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown. Remove from pans to wire racks to cool.

Heather also did some major work on my kitchen. Since moving in I've just sort of done the tiniest bit of work in there, figuring I'd get back to it...well...not so much. I'm going to try to finish it up tomorrow...sort of a birthday gift to myself! :)

And you also have to go look at Heather Bailey's new store. If you place your order before her grand opening (August 12th) you get 10% off! I think I'm going to get some of this to re-cover some chairs we were just given for our screened in porch. It's a great set... four chairs and a glass topped table. I'm going to give the chairs and table base a coat or two of white spray paint and I think it will look like new!

Isn't Heather's new store great? The new fabrics are so fun! Have you tried trash ties yet? I'm contemplating them.

The bagels sound great!

Mmmm yum! Nothing's quite so tasty as fresh, warm from the oven bagels.
